Relative Wind Compass Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 13, 2026
The short version
Relative Wind Compass has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no in-app purchases. Your location is used to fetch weather where you are; we never receive or store it.
Location
The app uses your precise location only while it is in use (iPhone and Apple Watch) to fetch local weather and draw the wind arrow against your heading. It does not track your location in the background.
What is sent off your device
To get weather, the app contacts three services. None of them receives your name or any account or device identifier.
- Apple WeatherKit: your coordinates, for current conditions, the hourly forecast and weather alerts. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com): your coordinates rounded to about 11 meters, for winds aloft.
- aviationweather.gov (U.S. government): airport identifiers and a broad region code for METAR reports and winds aloft. No coordinates are sent here.
Sensors
Compass heading and your iPhone's barometer are read on the device to compute relative wind, pressure altitude and density altitude. These readings never leave the device.
What stays on your device
Your settings (mode, units, chosen airport) and the latest wind reading are stored on your device and shared between your iPhone, Apple Watch and complications. Nothing is synced to any cloud service.
Children
Relative Wind Compass does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If the app's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the effective date revised before the change takes effect.
